This
First Day Cover commemorates the 59th Anniversary of the First Flight of the Fairey Fox - 3 January, 1984. This image by aviation artist John Young, depicts Fairey Foxs of No. 12 Squadron over Salisbury Plain during Autumn Exercises 1927.
This envelope was flown in Buccaneer S2B, XV 983 of No. 12 Squadron from Royal Air Force Lossiemouth on a long range probe sortie to find and shadow a Soviet Navy Udaloy Class Cruiser steaming north off the western coast of Ireland en-route to the U.S.S.R. A large portion of the sortie was flown at high speed and low level over the sea.
